ABOUT US

Our Global Mission

Our work in Nicaragua is only the beginning as we prepare to address similar issues in the palm oil, bio-fuel and banana industries. Through our programs and outreach we facilitate a meaningful exchange between consumers and the workers who produce their food and fuel. By providing direct aid, the tools for self-empowerment, and legal recourse when warranted, we are instrumental in improving working conditions, quality of life, and environmental conditions.

Our Mission in Nicaragua

The primary mission of La Isla Foundation in Nicaragua is to coordinate the resources  of local institutions, including Autonomous National University of Nicaragua-León (UNAN-León), hospitals, government ministries, and community leaders to determine the cause of the CRI epidemic in western Nicaragua. Our goals are to identify the causes of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease), facilitate treatment, educate workers, and support impacted families.

Our goals are as follows:

  1. Provide Urgent Medical Care and Community Outreach

  2. Studying the Causes of the Epidemic

  3. Developing Sustainable Agriculture Alternatives for the Community

  4. Fighting for Human Rights Protections and Labor Reforms

  5. Projects to Raise Funding and Increase Awareness of the Epidemic
