OUR GOALS
La Isla Foundation will raise funding for its work, and increase awareness of the CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) epidemic at the same time, through an educational excursion program affiliated with universities around the world, and through a language school held in the Foundation's office in León, Nicaragua.
The educational excursion program will offer university students short-term study abroad opportunities. (academic credit depends on the student’s university policy). Students will visit the communities around Chichigalpa, learn about the CKD epidemic and its causes, and experience inspiring small communities nearby that have embraced sustainable agro-ecology alternatives. The language school will offer English classes to local residents and Spanish immersion courses to international travelers and students in León, incorporating education about the CRI epidemic into lesson plans. For more information on these programs, see the LANGUAGE SCHOOL and EXCURSIONS sections of the website
